The current Cunard funnel design has a long and illustrious history. The shape is based on a design created over 50 years ago when QE2 was being designed. It comprises of the main stack (black) a cowling (red) and a wind scoop (white). The scoop pushes air up and over the top of the stack, pushing the smoke and soot away from the aft decks. This is further assisted by a release of hot air from the cowling. The colours date back to early Cunard; with the red colour being applied to RMS. Britannia back in 1840.
