QE2’s 1987 funnel - perhaps the most magnificent design to go to sea.

It was based off the original design used on QE2 from the 1960s however it was widened to accommodate 9 exhaust pipes from the ship’s new diesel power plant.

Several panels from the original funnel were used in its construction, including a few that had been damaged in the 1970s by a fire in the funnel casing. This caused the impression of wrinkles on the funnel which added to QE2’s character.
